This year I have been placed in two different centres – both Formacion Profesional (F.P.) colleges – in the Comunidad de Madrid.
IES VIRGEN DE LA PALOMA
Known as La Paloma for short, this is a public FP college that has taught students for over 75 years. One of Madrid’s largest colleges, it offers a wide range of course at FP Básica, Grado Medio and Grado Superior levels. Additionally, Dual Vocational Training is also available.
For each term, La Paloma has in the region of 2,400 students enrolled on courses from a variety of disciplines: administration and management; physical and sports activities; graphic arts, electricity and electronic, building and civil works; energy and water, mechanical manufacturing; facilities and maintenance, informatics and communications; wood, furniture and cork; chemistry; and transportation and vehicle maintenance.
LOCATION:
La Paloma is located in the north west of the city, next to the Dehesa de la Villa parkland. It is a short walk from Francos Rodriguez metro station (line 7).

IES NTRA. SRA. DE LA VICTORIA DE LEPANTO
This FP college has a strong focus on auto mechanic and administrative skills. The building itself was complete at the start of the 17th Century and originally functioned as a convent. The name of the convent (“Convent of Our Lady of the Victory of Lepanto” – a name now adopted by the school) refers to a shrine, originally built to give thanks for the 1571 victory over Turkish troops in the Battle of Lepanto.
Currently the school has 236 students. It offers courses at FP Basica and Grado Medio levels in the subjects electromechanics of motor vehicles, mechanical fabrication, administration and management, and vehicle transportation and maintenance. Each course includes classes to develop both technical and general English. Dual Vocational Training is also available.

Victoria de Lepanto is located in the town of Villarejo de Salvanes, approximately 50km southeast of Madrid. To reach Villarejo by public transport, take bus 351, 352 or 353 from Ronda de Atocha bus station (45 minute journey).
