Welcome to my Auxiliar de Conversacion portfolio
In our first year, all Auxiliares de Conversación (teaching assistants) working in the Comunidad de Madrid are asked to create a portfolio to showcase their approach to teaching in Spain. This website represents just some of the work that I have carried out so far (academic year 2019-2020) – and explores what I hope to achieve during my time here.
The tabs at the top of this page will help you navigate through the portfolio. In the About Pete section, you’ll find out about my personal history. This section details some of my past work achievements (as a magazine editor and freelance writer) as well as explaining my route into teaching (via Spanish language learning and a year as a teaching assistant in Andalucía).
The Abilities & Expectations section discusses some of my expectations for my time as a teacher in Madrid. It also highlights some of the abilities I bring to the role (from work skills like Photoshop to more recent qualifications like my CELTA B certificate). In particular it links my experience in the world of architectural design to the theme of my Final Project. At the end of this section, you can read my teaching philosophy – and learn how I believe it can be used to bring energy, enthusiasm and a joy for language learning.
Under the Schools tab you’ll find an introduction to the two F.P. colleges with which I have been placed this year. It includes brief guidance on how to reach these centres – for the benefit of future Auxiliaries who will work there. My aim is to develop this page as a hub for lots of other useful information to help next year’s Auxiliaries at both centres to hit the ground running.
The Teaching tab is divided into three parts (see a drop down menu). Firstly, it explains what grades and subjects I have worked with so far this year. It also discusses what goals I hope to achieve for myself and my students. Finally, it offers links to sample lessons – complete with lesson plan and downloadable support materials.
The Conclusions section provides a place to reflect on my contributions to the LA programme, as well as highlights of my experience so far.
