SAMPLE LESSONS

Below is a sample of some of the lessons I developed from scratch – with full lesson plans and materials that can be downloaded and used (Powerpoint presentation, flashcard files, etc). In this section, I also include some tips for new teachers. Click on the lesson name to link through to each lesson plan.

Many of the lessons I worked on were based around the dedicated curriculum for each course. My aim with these lessons, was to bring required textbook work to life by creating dynamic warmer exercises and finding clear ways to explain the key grammatical points. To avoid reproducing textbook material online / breaching copyright, these lesson plans have not been included here.

MUCH / MANY (countable/uncountable nouns)

A team game to revise the identification and use of countable and uncountable nouns. Students practise forming the sentences “How many xxxxs are there?” and “How much xxx is there?”. An online ‘spinner’ selects the student and noun.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX? (Question and short answer practice)

A powerpoint-powered guessing game. Student must form questions (Can it…? / Does it..? / Is it…? etc) with the ‘box owner’ practising short yes no answers (Yes, it can / No, it can’t. etc)

COMPARATIVE / SUPERLATIVE (more / most vs. -er / -est)

Revision of how and when to use ‘more’/’most’ and ‘-er’/’-est’ when constructing comparative and superlative sentences. Student must first categories adjectives into four columns depending on number of syllables and word-ending. They then discuss members of the class using the correct forms.

BODY PARTS

Practising body part vocabulary and guessing phrases (“I think it’s a nose.” / “It could be a finger.” Students first try to identify close-up body parts, then in two teams, race to label as many parts of a giant body diagram as possible.

SPANISH BUILDINGS (Active and Passive voice practice)

Using facts about iconic Spanish buildings, students learn how to construct passive sentences. (Used as part of the Final Project)

TIPS: Teacher conversation classes

Some tips on how to maximise the effectiveness of any classes you are asked to deliver to the teaching staff. (Includes examples of follow up emails.)

TIPS: Five super-useful re-usable materials to enhance your classroom

These are my top five items – found in any local bazaar store – that have aided and added to my classroom activities here in Spain. From bolstering limited whiteboard space to adding an interactive element to activities.
